The Pier Hotel

The Largs Pier Hotel, located at 198 Esplanade, Largs Bay, has a rich history. It was originally opened in December 1882 as "The Pier." In 1891, the building was renamed the Largs Pier Hotel. Over the years, it has become a historically significant building, now listed with the National Trust. Positioned on the beachfront, the structure is known for its grandeur and served as a vibrant nightspot.[1]

History

Largs Bay is a seaside suburb in South Australia, named after the town of Largs in Scotland. The name is derived from the Gaelic word learg, meaning 'side or slope of a hill, beaten path.' It was first applied in 1914 to a subdivision of sections 1092-93 by the SA Land, Mortgage & Agency Co. Ltd. The area holds historical significance due to its connection with George Elder, who died in 1897 and played a role in its naming.[2]
