Kapunda a town in the county of light south west of the Light river, 82km North East of Adelaide was established after copper ore was discovered in 1842 in kapunda.[1]
History
Australia's first copper mining center, situated north of Adelaide, had its ore discovered in 1842 by Charles Samuel Bagot, the son of pastoralist Charles Harvey Bagot. Initially, Charles Bagot and his farming partner, Francis Stacker Dutton, kept the discovery confidential until they secured a lease on the site and began mining in 1844. The following year, Dutton traveled to England to recruit Cornish miners and sold his share, leaving Bagot in complete control. The mine produced over £1 million worth of copper before closing in 1879.[2]
